Local-First. No Compromise.

Most modern software is built cloud-first. Your files travel to someone else's server, your behavior is logged, and your data becomes a resource someone else controls. Every Korerium product is built the opposite way. Local-first means your data lives on your machine, is processed on your machine, and never leaves unless you choose to send it somewhere. No compromise means we do not make exceptions to that rule, not for analytics, not for convenience, not for any business reason. That is not a privacy feature. That is the architecture.

What cloud-first actually means

When an app is cloud-first, your data is the product. A photo you edit, a document you write, a file you organize, all of it typically passes through a remote server before you see the result. That server logs the request, often retains a copy, and in many cases uses the interaction to improve a model, target advertising, or build a profile of how you use the software.

This is not always disclosed clearly, and even when it is, most people never read the privacy policy closely enough to notice. The default has become: your data leaves your device, and you trust a company you have never met to handle it responsibly.

What local-first means instead

Local-first software does the opposite. Every operation, reading a file, removing metadata, encrypting a document, happens directly on your device using your device's own processing power. Nothing is uploaded. Nothing is logged remotely. There is no server in the loop to trust, because there is no server in the loop at all.

This is not a marketing description. It is a technical constraint we build into every Korerium product from the first line of code. If a feature would require sending your data somewhere else, we either find a way to do it locally or we do not build the feature.

Why we do not make exceptions

It would be easier, in some cases, to build a cloud feature. Analytics would tell us which parts of an app people actually use. A server-side sync feature would be simpler to build than a fully local one. Crash reporting through a third party is faster to set up than a local-only system.

We do not take those paths, because the moment you make one exception, you have to explain why that exception was acceptable but the next one is not. "No compromise" only means something if it applies every time, not most of the time. The one deliberate exception in our current lineup, an optional map feature in MetaZero that looks up an address for coordinates already in your photo, is opt-in, off by default in spirit of full disclosure, and documented plainly in our Privacy Policy.

What this looks like in practice

  • No account is required to use any Korerium app
  • No usage data, crash reports, or behavioral analytics are collected
  • No files are uploaded to process a feature
  • No subscription model that would require ongoing server infrastructure tied to your usage

This is why Korerium software works the same on day one as it does years later, with no server dependency to eventually shut down, and no reason for your files to ever leave the device you trust most.
